Russia is best at everything

My Swatch watch came irreparably apart recently.  I had gotten very attached to this watch and even resorted to repairing the band with paperclips last summer in Spain.  Scouring the interwebs for a replacement, I came upon this interesting-looking Russian 24-hour watch.  The Soviet Union and this particular company, Raketa, meaning rocket, have a long history of making military-style 24-hour watches.

MONUMENTS TO POWER

Stalin had the Church of Jesus Christ the Savior in Moscow destroyed so that he could build a monument to Soviet power in its place.

The Soviets ran out of money halfway through this project, and the poured foundations were turned into a public swimming pool.  After the Soviet Union fell, the people of Russia donated to help rebuild the church.

A model of the Antonov A-40, a winged tank that was supposed to glide into battle.  The Soviet Union built and tested a prototype in 1942, but it turned out to be too awesome.
