MONUMENTS TO POWER
Stalin had the Church of Jesus Christ the Savior in Moscow destroyed so that he could build a monument to Soviet power in its place. (via neatorama) The Soviets ran out of money halfway through this project, and the poured foundations were turned into a public swimming pool.  After the Soviet Union fell, the people of Russia donated to help rebuild the church.

The aspect of law school that I am most excited about is the kvetching about Supreme Court justices. arvindiy: On the list of supreme court justices who invoke my ire, Scalia has traditionally , historically, been, in the past, the worst offender.  This week, I would like to congratulate Justice Clarence Thomas for overtaking the Hon. Antonin Scalia as the worst member of our highest court. ...

Good for her
I did not know that Heather Armstrong of dooce.com makes $40,000 a month in advertising in conjunction with her husband.  Heather is good at telling stories and taking pictures of her dogs, and I am glad that our modern world values these skills.

NewScientist writes about a team of Canadian scientists that created fuel cells that are powered by yeast feeding on the glucose in human blood.  It’s a first step, but the cells could eventually be adapted to work as batteries for medicial implants.  This is how I want my future subdermal iPod powered.
